Signwrite your car using decals? It’s a no-brainer!

Signwrite your car using decals? It’s a no-brainer!

Do you want your car to stand out in a crowd – or should we say crowded parking lot?  Whether it’s for business or pleasure, here’s why you should consider installing decals on your vehicle.

Personalise:

Decals are a unique way to stamp your personal style on your vehicle. Racing stripes, graphic designs, logos, custom text, pink flamingos, hey go crazy – decals are a budget-friendly, easy way to customise your car’s exterior without the need for expensive paint jobs.

Promote:

Spread the word about your business just by driving around! Display your company logo, contact details and even your mission statement by installing decals – they’re a cheap and easy solution when it comes to increasing both your brand’s visibility and audience reach.

Identify:

Proudly show off, for example, your membership to a particular sports club or your affinity with professional and hobby groups by using decals on your car. There’ll be no mistaking your loyalty.

Be seen (no, really!):

Reflective or high visibility decals, especially during low-light conditions or heavy traffic areas, can help make your vehicle more noticeable to other drivers and therefore, safer. Who knew a sticker might save your life one day?

Protect:

Clear vinyl decals – think protective layers on places like door edges or bumpers – can help prevent scratches or chips to your car’s paintwork.

Modify:

Well, temporarily! You can use decals to change the appearance of your car easily and without breaking the bank. The great thing about decals is that they are not permanent – they can easily be removed and replaced without damaging the surface of your car.

Grafix Wall Art are experts at installing decals on cars. The team has worked on major commercial projects such as Carpet Court’s fleet of vehicles where they used special techniques to apply vinyl cut graphics. Then there have been numerous smaller projects where decals of simple graphics, logos and text were used to signwrite cars for sole business owners who wanted to make a big impact without splashing too much cash. No project is too small, says owner of Grafix, Christine Petty, and we’re always  on hand to deliver customised car signwriting solutions that will turn heads.

Want to install a decal on a car yourself? It can be straightforward if you follow the right steps. Here’s a general guide to help you:

  1. Clean the surface: Start by thoroughly cleaning the area where you plan to apply the decal. Use a mild detergent and water to remove any dirt, wax, or grease. Dry the surface completely with a clean cloth.
  2. Prepare the decal: If your decal consists of multiple pieces, lay them out on a flat surface and arrange them in the desired position. Trim any excess material if needed.
  3. Position the decal: Use masking tape to temporarily hold the decal in place on the car. Step back and check the positioning to ensure it’s where you want it.
  4. Peel off the backing: Carefully peel off the backing from the decal, starting from one corner. Take your time to avoid tearing or stretching the material.
  5. Apply the decal: Once the backing is removed, slowly lower the decal onto the surface of the car, starting from one end. Use a squeegee or a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles and ensure good adhesion. Work from the centre outwards to push out any trapped air.
  6. Remove the transfer tape: If your decal has transfer tape, gently peel it off at a sharp angle, taking care not to lift the decal from the surface.
  7. Final touches: After applying the decal, go over it again with the squeegee to ensure it’s firmly adhered to the surface. If there are any air bubbles remaining, use a pin or needle to puncture them and smooth out the area.
  8. Let it cure: Allow the decal to cure for at least 24 hours before exposing it to water or extreme weather conditions. This will ensure proper bonding with the surface of the car.
